Urgent Support Needed: Shwe Thama Free Monastic School

The Shwe Thama Free Monastic School has been completely destroyed in the recent earthquake, with 100% of its buildings reduced to rubble.

Yet, despite this devastation, the presiding abbot now over 80 years old remains steadfast in his lifelong mission to serve the Dhamma and support the welfare of the local community. His resilience and dedication continue to inspire hope.

The school currently provides education for over 100 students, guided by a small team of five teachers who work with minimal resources. However, the challenges they face are profound. The school is located in an area where digging a well is nearly impossible, leaving the community to endure a severe and ongoing shortage of clean water.

On top of this, the school struggles with serious financial hardships from covering teachers’ modest monthly salaries to meeting basic operating costs.

With the destruction of its facilities, the lack of water access, and chronic financial instability, the Shwe Thama School’s future and its ability to continue serving the community hangs in the balance.
